A short walk further up to Hut Point and the cross memorializing the death of George Vince, a sailor who died making the walk from the hut to the SS Discovery in 1902, Scott's ship moored in the ice nearby. It was cold and windy up there.
This is the Adelie penguin I saw looking over hut point. I think he was showing off for us; he hopped out of the water, waddled around, squawked a few times, and dove back in.
Later in the day, I joined a group that drove out to see four Emperor penguins. This shot includes the active volcano Mt Erebus in the background.
Can't believe you got to see Emperors.... I'll just have to go back so I can see some myself....
